Community economic development

Rotary International recognises community and economic development as one of its areas of focus, with the aim of empowering individuals and communities to achieve measurable and lasting economic improvement.

The approach rests on investing in people and creating sustainable opportunities for productive work and a better standard of living in underdeveloped areas.

Main goals and activities

• Building the capacity of local leaders and entrepreneurs, with emphasis on empowering women in low-income communities
• Access to financial institutions and training in financial management and business planning
• Creating employment opportunities through vocational training and providing equipment
• Agricultural development — improved techniques, irrigation equipment, sustainable practices
• Microfinance and microcredit for entrepreneurs without access to banking

Rotary in Serbia and Montenegro

Projects in Serbia have included support for young entrepreneurs and start-ups, exchange of knowledge and ideas, and creating an environment that encourages business development. Through Rotary Community Corps, Rotary also involves non-Rotarians, local leaders and specialists, enabling communities to take a leading role in addressing their own economic needs.
